Climate change today is one of the greatest global challenges facing humanity. Its consequences – heat waves, droughts, water scarcity, and the urban heat island effect – are particularly pronounced in Central Asia. In Samarkand city, for instance heat, limited water resources, dust storms, and air quality problems pose serious obstacles to sustainable development. For Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction, this issue is of particular importance.
The construction and architecture sector is both one of the largest contributors to climate change and a key field in mitigating its effects. Through education and scientific research, the university is developing solutions such as energy-efficient buildings, low-carbon materials, green infrastructure, and climate-resilient urban planning. Moreover, Samarkand’s rich historical heritage is highly sensitive to climate stresses, which is why SSUAC considers heritage preservation an integral part of its strategy. Overall, the university’s mission is to propose vital solutions in sustainable architecture and climate-resilient urban development, not only for the region but also for the world.



At Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University, a scientific-educational seminar on the topic “Engineering and Social Dimensions of Climate Change Solutions” was held with the participation of Dr. John Capece, Professor at the University of Florida (USA) and Founder of Intelligentsia International Inc.
During the seminar, international experiences and practical solutions in the fields of climate change, water resources management, and environmental protection were extensively discussed.
The event was actively attended by Rector Dr. Chidem Turkyilmaz, vice-rectors, faculty members, and students. The seminar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session and open discussions.
In celebration of the 2nd anniversary of Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University being granted university status, an Intellectual Game was held on the theme “Innovative Methods for Sustainable Management and Use of Water Resources under Climate Change Conditions.”Student and researcher teams from various faculties participated in the competition, showcasing their knowledge and creative approaches on innovative ideas, sustainable management practices, and modern technologies for the efficient use of water resources.During the event, a quiz segment was also organized, featuring questions dedicated to water-saving technologies, water scarcity challenges, and innovative solutions aimed at promoting awareness and practical understanding of sustainable water management.

During the event, the importance of introducing advanced water-saving technologies and supporting related scientific research was emphasized.This competition plays a significant role in strengthening the university’s scientific and practical potential and in encouraging young researchers to focus on the preservation of water resources. The presented projects are expected to serve as a valuable foundation for addressing regional water scarcity challenges in the future.


At Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University, a scientific-practical conference was held on the theme “Challenges in Implementing Innovative Achievements of Modern Science in the Field of Architecture and Construction.”
The main purpose of the conference was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of ongoing scientific research, with a particular focus on supporting students and young researchers in their scientific activities, promoting their professional development through international experience, and encouraging promising research initiatives.
The conference was organized across the following thematic sections:
Section I. Current issues in the development of architecture, design, and urban planning based on scientific and innovative achievements; prospects for the construction of buildings and engineering networks.
Section II. Development of modern building materials and innovative construction technologies.
Section III. Application of modern digital technologies in the development of land resources, geodesy, cartography, and the national cadastre.
Section IV. Urban ecology issues and their modern solutions.
Section V. Global climate change and the rational use of natural resources in addressing environmental challenges.
Section VI. Use of renewable energy sources in construction practices.
Section VII. Problems and modern solutions in the construction of buildings, communication systems, and roads.
Section VIII. Innovative approaches to improving the investment and business environment in the fields of economics, tourism, services, and the real estate market.
In each section, master’s and doctoral students presented reports on their ongoing scientific research and studies. At the end of the conference, the presented research papers were discussed by young scientists. The suggestions and opinions expressed during the sessions were summarized, and a final resolution was adopted.
The “Samarkand Art and Cultural Heritage Festival” was held from May 23 to June 9 of this year at the “Silk Road” (Art Station) Art Residency under the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Samarkand Regional Hokimiyat (Administration), the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, the “Silk Road” (Art Station) Art Residency, and Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction.


At the initiative of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, a special campaign was held across the country on March 25 — “Earth Hour” Day.In honor of “Earth Hour”, a special event was also organized at Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction.As part of the campaign, all electrical equipment on the university premises was turned off for one hour. During this time, professors, teachers, students, and staff members took a walk around the university grounds and enjoyed the beauty of nature.
